Judith’s Story
I’m a 38 year old mother of four children, three girls and one boy.
I remember one day a friend of mine learned that she had been infected by HIV, and decided that she wanted me to be infected as well. She welcomed me to spend the night at her home, and because I was poor I readily agreed, not knowing the fact that was waiting for me. Her boyfriend came over to visit with the intention of raping me, so I would become infected.
Our awesome God inspired my sister to call on me, to knock on the door, at exactly that moment. My would-be rapist refused to open the door, but I screamed and many people in the village came to my rescue.
My mother and father went to the police, but nothing was done to the man because of the corruption that’s all too common in Kenya. He was released the next day, but he is will hesitate to try anything like that again because everyone in the village knows what he did, and mob justice is common our community. If he tries to attack another women, he risks being burned alive.
After this experience, I thought of men as animals, but I was given hope when women from Uganda visited our church and took the time to mentor me with Bible verses and prayer. They taught me that women can be warriors, administrators, and managers. Because of them, I learned to love God.
I love to help put a smile on the faces of young girls, to encourage them, and help them realize that no matter what happens, they are safe because their life is in Jesus’ hands.
TAFA is like a vessel that God has been using to give hope and a new beginning to those who are oppressed, and to give direction to those who are lost. We bless God for all He is doing.
This is my short story on why I joined TAFA. 🙌
